The municipality of Males comprises the villages of Males, Hristos, Metaxohori, Selakano and Mathokotsana. The biggest forested area of Crete, (Selakano) is also is situated in this area.

Just outside Malos is the nunnery Panagia Exacousti where 5 nuns currently live.  It is certainly worth a visit.  It is extremely well maintained with lots of beautiful flowers. There is a small gift shop where it is possible to purchase articles mainly of a religious nature.
